The Community Information team is a specialist team that resides in the Bureau's Decision Support Services Program. The core function of this team is to deliver a continuous weather narrative to the Australian Community, that inspires informed decision-making and action and enables the community to be resilient to the impacts of weather, water, climate, space and oceans.
We are seeking experienced science communicators to work within a nationally focused team, located in Australian capital cities, to provide live and pre-recorded scheduled radio crosses with a weather focus. Other public-facing services, including responding to print, online and social media enquiries and occasional television crosses will form part of the role. Successful applicants will be provided with appropriate meteorological and/or media training to build upon existing skills.
Community Information Officers are committed to supporting the Bureau and our partners outside the scope of standard working hours, with shift work being the primary way of working. During severe weather and peak periods, you may be asked to extend your hours (at times at short notice), aligned to operational requirements. This could include temporarily filling operational roles as required nationally; and contributing to the seamless delivery of briefings to partners and media interviews.
