CASUAL LABOURER (OPERATIONS)

Hours: 40 hours per week; night and day shifts available. Overtime hours are available as well.
Positions: Sixteen (16)
Term of Employment: Up to 160 calendar days per calendar year per the CUPE Local 907 collective agreement
Union: CUPE
Salary: $22.47 per hour; plus $1.25 shift premium where applicable
PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
Reporting directly to the Operations Supervisor, this position is part of a team dedicated to excellent operational and customer service experience. The position will assist full-time staff with duties as assigned in the Operations section.
Candidates must be available to work seven days per week for Operations and have their own safety boots available.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operating city vehicles and equipment as required
- Operating various construction equipment and machinery
- Sweep streets and sidewalks
- General dusting, cleaning and washing
- Maintain building cleanliness and sanitation including lobbies, washrooms, hallways, meeting rooms and the outside perimeter of the building
- Shovel sand and debris on the roads and onto trucks
- Shoveling and placing of asphalt
- Salting the roads
- Shovel sidewalks
- Operating sidewalk machines
- Install and clean culverts
- Operating non-power tools (i.e. hand saw, bolt cutters etc.)
- Debris, garbage, leaf, yard waste and recycling items pick up and dispose of same following Department procedures
- Erecting formwork, banners, flags, Christmas decorations etc.
- Painting signs, guard rails, curbs etc.
- Changing of lights
- Complete facility maintenance such as winterizing buildings, repairing water lines etc.
EDUCATION/SPECIALIZED TRAINING/SKILLS:
Essential (Minimum) Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid full class G Driver’s License and a clean driving record.
- Must be physically fit and able to work in adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Customer service experience.
Asset Qualifications:
- Traffic Control Training is considered an asset.
- Class ‘DZ’ Ontario Driver’s License will be considered an asset.
